First of all, this is a very nice picture, job well done.
I don't think your settings are too bad, other then maybe next time just close your aperture up a bit, maybe try going to a f5.6 and adjust your shutter to a perfect exposure.
Here is a link to your picture I played around with just a bit in Photoshop. I made a new layer. I then next adjusted the exposure since his shirt was a little blown out. From that point, i made a layer mask, ctrl B for new brush, then i brushed the background back into the image as the original color and exposure. You can play around with the brush size for when you go around the bodies. Next, I did unsharp mask twice, with the settings 150-1-10. I then flattened the image. Next, I decided to add a burn around the image, PRESTO.
